Anyone who has worked with a coach knows it’s all about chemistry, and a willingness to do the work. Together we have travelled a path that evolved from working with the team, to working 1:1. In 2022, Chantal discovered the magic of the cold through her local network. Here is her account of discovering the untold story of herself through cold water and coaching…
“I first started working with Kim nearly 8 years ago, shortly after I had taken up the role of People Director for Woolworths South Africa. Kim worked with my new team and I to define our vision and purpose, which in turn guided our strategy. Although she was working with us collectively as a team, she stood out as one of the organisation and people development professionals that I have worked with in my career who had a huge impact on my personal growth and development. Always fully present, always challenging but also supportive, a deep and active listener, never scared of having the difficult conversations, and with a wicked sense of humour and irreverence popping out at just the right times, Kim had a way of getting the team and I to question our preconceived ideas and unconscious biases, opening up our thinking and creating opportunities for reflection, self-insight, and growth.'”
As the team process wrapped up, we worked together on Chantal’s leadership journey…
“What makes Kim unique is her ability to maintain a perfect balance between empathy, care and support on the one hand, and honesty, provocation and challenge on the other. Gently but firmly, Kim worked with me to face my fears and work through my self-doubts and insecurities. Slowly I started to rediscover a sense of purpose and meaning, and gained clarity on what truly mattered to me.”
“Cold water swimming has gifted me a different experience and perspective of myself. I am more courageous, more adaptable, more flexible and more resilient than I realise. As this mindset shift starts to extend and permeate how I approach other areas of my life, I start to understand first hand what Kim meant when she described cold-sea swimming as life-changing. I learn that I can challenge myself to push through established boundaries and venture out of my familiar comfort zones, learning, growing, evolving and becoming stronger along the way. I start to believe, really believe, that I am strong and resilient. I develop a deepening sense of self respect. I start to trust, really trust that I am enough.
Cold water sea swimming and coaching has truly transformed me and changed the way I approach my life, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

“What I discovered is that cold water + coaching = a unique approach that produced useful, energising insights. I was intrigued by the combination, didn’t know what to expect, and learned a lot about myself in a short time – untold stuff that was below the surface. A huge part of that was how Kim held and guided the process: present, perceptive, genuinely curious, engaging, hard-working, resourceful, committed. She is properly all-in.”

“What a memorable 2 days and a truly brilliant way to reset, reflect and plan. How often do you get to completely detach and immerse yourself in your own development and growth. Good coaching isn’t about getting advice, it’s about seeing things through different lenses and asking ‘what have I missed?’ This process surpassed all my expectations.”

“Coaching with Kim has brought me so much insight over the past year and it has helped me reach the place I am today.
I am so grateful for my place in this world and all that walk it with me, short distance or long distance.”
